1. Explore a future in health with our new Bachelor of Biomedicine and Health

Our new three-year specialist undergraduate degree in biomedicine and health offers a rich curriculum including authentic scenarios in health care designed to equip you with a strong foundation in biomedical and health sciences, alongside essential interprofessional skills.

Whether you're set on a health-related career or still exploring your options, this course prepares you for a wide range of professional pathways, including postgraduate clinical study, even if you haven’t yet settled on a specific direction.

You'll gain a deep understanding of human biology, health, disease, and treatment, while also exploring the factors affecting public health, public health interventions, and the workings of health care systems.

This degree could be the perfect fit if you're passionate about working in health, keen to develop practical, real-world skills, and want to keep your future options open as you discover where your interests truly lie.

2. Study in the heart of a world-leading health and research precinct

As a student in this degree, you’ll study at the Westmead Health Precinct, giving you a direct link to one of the world’s largest and most dynamic health and medical research environments. The precinct is home to major adult and children’s hospitals, as well as internationally recognised research institutes, all working in close partnership with the University of Sydney.

The precinct houses five biomedical research institutes, where the University maintains strong collaborative ties. This unique setting gives you the chance to experience health and research workplaces first-hand, with opportunities to learn directly from clinicians and health professionals both in the classroom and during placements or projects.

You’ll learn in state-of-the-art facilities, including interactive learning studios, a media lab, virtual reality spaces, and clinical simulation environments, designed to reflect real-world health care settings.

Added to this, you’ll be taught by leading academics, clinicians, and researchers from across the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Their expertise spans disciplines such as medical sciences, public health, nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and health sciences. Through this, you’ll gain valuable insights from across the healthcare spectrum, while developing essential collaborative skills, cultural awareness, and an understanding of diversity in practice.

3. Flexible study options

The Bachelor of Biomedicine and Health degree offers the flexibility to study either full-time or part-time*, making it easier to balance your studies with other commitments.

In your second and third years, you’ll complete 36 credit points (equivalent to six units of study) known as selectives. These allow you to tailor your learning by choosing from a range of options that suit your interests and goals.

Selectives include opportunities for work-integrated learning, such as placements and projects within the Westmead Health Precinct that give you real-world experience, working directly alongside health professionals and researchers in biomedical and health settings.

You can also choose units that let you explore specialised areas in greater depth, whether that’s within a particular discipline you’re passionate about, or one that aligns with your future career plans.

4. Build your future in health with real-world learning

Designed to provide integrated and authentic learning experiences, this three-year degree is ideal for anyone looking to gain the skills and knowledge needed for a wide variety of careers across the health sector.

It also offers a strong foundation for further postgraduate study if you’re aiming to become a health care professional.

After completing the degree, graduates may pursue roles in areas such as health management, health research or biomedical research.

Whether you’re focused on entering the workforce or planning to continue your studies, this course equips you with both the academic grounding and practical experience to take the next step with confidence.

5. Equipping you to shape the future of health care

Through strong and lasting connections with Western Sydney and the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), this degree offers industry-linked projects and work-integrated learning experiences that will prepare you to thrive in health care and biomedical research settings.

Graduates can expect to build strong capabilities in data handling and interpretation, combined with knowledge of disease mechanisms and emerging diagnostic innovations.

You’ll explore cutting-edge fields such as genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, which are key to advancing personalised medicine.

Additionally, you’ll engage with data-driven and AI-enabled approaches, preparing you to contribute to transformative changes in health care and improved patient outcomes.

You’ll gain exposure to real-world scenarios in clinical environments and develop a deep understanding of patient care models, the social and cultural determinants of health, and the challenges of health inequity.

Emphasis on cultural safety, inclusivity, and diversity will ensure you are well equipped to deliver respectful, patient-centred care in your future career.

* Due to the integrated course structure, a part-time study load of 12 credit points (or 2 units of study) each semester is recommended.
