Hi, my name is Vipoo Srivilasa. I am an artist and I make ceramics.
The most inspiration for me is to go behind the scenes and see all the collections. And I think the museum, it actually collects stories from the past through these objects. That inspired me to make these series of work for the show.
so I collect story from friends because those art labs time was an amazing time. I get to hang out with so many good friends, and that's really inspired me, and really important because I work alone for most of the time. So to be with other people for a whole week that was fantastic. So I, I center my work around friendships and then they create lots and lots of pieces that, inspired by these friends that I met and then friends as an object from the collection.
I also, showing work from my archive, from my own collections that relate to friendships. From my residency in the past, or from collaborations in the past, work that I haven't shown in gallery before because it's quite personal and it's quite meaningful to me.
And I get to make two, two of my cats into ceramic mask. That was fun.
I got a lot of inspiration from the collection. It is really hard to pin down to 1 or 2. I remember the Golden mask. I remember the African mask with red color. I remember a lot of cats, blue and white colors and lots of figurines.
I think the project, allow me to do something different, by incorporate objects from the museum itself, which is a wooden tray to my work, and also, to be able to present my work in a different way in the new context, which I don't usually have an opportunity to do.
What was my process like beginning with visiting the museum through the making stage?
It's a long process. I visit the museum. I come to the studio, and I thought about what I want to do. Yeah. And then I just do it.
I think it is a fun project. It's going to be a fantastic project and it is a fantastic, fantastic project. I really enjoyed it.
Bye.
