Sydney Nano provides support and career development opportunities for researchers across all levels, including research students.

Student Ambassador Scholarship

The University of Sydney Nano Institute Student Ambassador Scholarship has been established to assist postgraduate research students gain practical experience, develop skills, and contribute to the goals of Sydney Nano through its researcher development programs. The scholarship also aims to give visibility to the study of nanoscience in innovative and creative ways.

We will give preference to applications from students whose research intersects with nanotechnology or nanoscience. However, this intersection can emerge from any research background (e.g., science, engineering, medicine and health, arts, law, business, media and communications, music, theatre, design, etc.).

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in research communication, project management, mentoring, and leadership.

Each scholarship is valued at A$5,000 per annum (pro rata) and is offered for a period of up to two years.

Note: This is a secondary scholarship and applicants must be holders of a primary research scholarship from the University of Sydney.

Taste of Research Award

Sydney Nano's Taste of Research Award (AU$3,000) calls on high calibre undergraduate coursework students undertaking research with leading academics (who are Sydney Nano Members) relating to nanoscience and critical and emerging technologies. 

Why apply?

Successful candidates will develop research skills, gain experience, and contribute to finding real-world solutions through a six-week period of research on a full-time basis. Dates can be arranged with your academic host, based on their availability.

2025 dates

Applications will open in mid-August 2025 and close mid-September.
