On behalf of the University, Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Mark Scott congratulated all members of the University community recognised in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours list.  

Recipients include Kate Curtis, Professor of Emergency and Trauma Care at the Sydney Nursing School and founder of HIRAID, a validated framework designed to support emergency nurses in assessing and managing emergency department patients after triage.

Professor Curtis was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to trauma and emergency nursing, to critical care research, to tertiary education, and to professional organisations.

Emeritus Professor Leonard Lindoy from the Faculty of Science was also appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to chemical sciences as a researcher, to tertiary education, and in leadership roles. Alumnus Dr Graham Newstead was also appointed an AO for distinguished service to colorectal surgical medicine and training, to bowel cancer awareness, education and prevention, and to professional societies.

Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, a University of Sydney Senate Fellow and chair of the Australian Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusion @ Work Advisory Board, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the property sector through executive roles.

Karen Moses, also a University of Sydney Senate Fellow, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the energy industry.

“These honours serve as powerful recognition of outstanding service and contribution, and we warmly congratulate our staff, alumni and affiliates who have been acknowledged in this way,” Professor Scott said.  

“At Sydney, we strive to be of service to our community, to Australia and the world – undertaking and collaborating on vital research to address our shared challenges and delivering transformative teaching and education for all our students.  

“Today we celebrate the achievements of all the recipients, and take pride in the members of our own community who have been honoured for their important work.”
