Who's eligible

You must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen
  • be eligible for admission into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Sydney Business School.

Note: Students currently enrolled in the University of Sydney MBA and employees of the University of Sydney are not eligible to apply for this Scholarship.

1. Background

a. Established in 2015 by the University of Sydney Business School, this Scholarship is intended to promote academic excellence within the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree offered by the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is available to applicants of the Future Leaders Scholarship.

b. Applicants must be an Australian citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident, or a New Zealand citizen.

c. Applicants must be eligible for admission into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) within the Business School at the University of Sydney.

d. Students currently enrolled in the University of Sydney MBA and employees of the University of Sydney are not eligible to apply for this Scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of prior academic merit and a personal statement that demonstrates:

I. leadership capability, with the successful applicant being required to demonstrate outstanding leadership potential in the business domain,

II. ambassadorial potential, including outstanding public and professional communication skills, and

III. motivation to succeed in business in a socially responsible way by demonstrating a commitment to applying the learning offered in the Master of Business Administration degree to making a positive difference to professional life and business practice.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a Selection Committee consisting of the Program Director, MBA, or their nominated delegate, a professional staff member from the MBA Program, and an Alumnus of the MBA.

4. Value

a. The scholarship will cover the academic tuition fees for two units of study (12 credit points) in the MBA Program.

b. One unit of study will be covered in the recipient’s first semester of study and the other and final unit, in their second semester of study.

c. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Director of the MBA Programs and it is not transferable to another school, faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable. Recipients are required to pay their Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) – and the remainder of their academic tuition fees.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 in the first semester of award.

b. Suspension of the scholarship is only permitted under exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the relevant Associate Dean (or their nominee).

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

IV. is awarded an alternative primary scholarship such as the Future Leader Scholarship. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship where the alternative scholarship is of higher value,

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VI. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once terminated, a scholarship will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Other

a. The recipient will be invited to promote the MBA Program and represent the University of Sydney Business School at marketing events and corporate networking events.
