The First Nations Centre, Community of Practice provides a focal point for First Nations engagement, connection and collaboration within the Faculty of Science. It is intended to bring together First Nations people, researchers and relevant University participants around shared priorities, relationships and opportunities.
The Centre will strengthen connections between the University and First Nations communities, including through Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal-run community organisations where appropriate. Its role is to help create clearer pathways for communities to engage with the Faculty and for researchers to develop relationships in ways that are respectful, purposeful and responsive to community priorities.
As a community of practice, the Centre will also provide a space for shared learning, collaboration and exchange across the Faculty. It will support connections around research, education and engagement while recognising the importance of First Nations knowledge, cultural authority and community relationships.
The Centre works with First Nations communities and organisations and provide a clearer point of connection with the Faculty of Science. Engagement will focus on understanding community priorities and identifying appropriate opportunities for collaboration.
The Centre will connect researchers, First Nations knowledge holders and partners around areas of shared interest. Its role is to facilitate relationships and collaboration rather than prescribe research priorities for communities.
The Centre will support pathways that connect First Nations communities with education, research and other opportunities within the Faculty, while helping University participants build stronger capability for respectful and productive engagement.
