Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship: 5 reasons to apply

Are you a 1st or 2nd year student with a big vision for Sydney?
Applications for the 2019 Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship are now open. Are you an architecture, arts, business or engineering undergrad interested in urbanism? Here are five reasons why you should apply.

1. Get financial support for your studies

Valued at $10,000 a year for the duration of your degree, the Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship will provide you with financial freedom and support during your studies.

The scholarship is open to first and second year undergraduate University of Sydney students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies, Business School and School of Architecture, Design and Planning. You should be interested in issues related to urbanism, such as urban development, urban planning, urban design, project finance, project or facilities management, public policy, or engineering.

2. Share your vision for Sydney with the people who can make a difference

How do you envision Sydney in the future – and how we can influence it for the better? By applying for the 2018 Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship, you’ll get the opportunity to share your ideas and passion with the individuals and organisations currently working to shape the Sydney of the future.

Your written application will be reviewed by leading academic experts in urbanism from across the University of Sydney. If you are selected as a scholarship finalist you’ll have the opportunity to present your vision in person to leaders in industry, government and the media.

“I was given the chance to present my idea to Steve McCann, the CEO and Managing Director of Lendlease, and also present my acceptance speech at the Bradfield Oration in front of Lucy Turnbull and [then NSW Premier] Mike Baird,” says Bachelor of Architecture and Environments student Kate Zambelli, the 2016 recipient of the Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship.

3. Show your leadership potential

Being awarded a scholarship can have a significant impact on your resume – and could even give you a head start in your career after graduation.

If you have leadership aspirations, the Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship offers a unique opportunity to get noticed and showcase your creative thinking, public speaking and writing skills outside the classroom. You may even discover new talents that you can take into your professional future.

4. Establish new networks

If you’re selected as a scholarship finalist, you’ll have the opportunity to make industry contacts and connect with potential employers, and meet students from other faculties with similar interests. You’ll also receive an invite to the exclusive Bradfield Oration where you’ll rub shoulders with leaders from the corporate, political and academic worlds and find out what’s in store for our city in the years to come.

Though not included as part of the scholarship, some of our past finalists have also been offered internships at Lendlease. In 2017, scholarship recipient Kate was awarded an internship, which she described as “an amazing opportunity for any university student, let alone a first-year architecture student”.

5. Get your name in the headlines

If you’re selected as a Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship finalist, you may be featured in an article published in The Daily Telegraph, NSW’s most-read newspaper.

Some of last year’s coverage featured second-year architecture student Eloise Bull and her aims to plant rooftop gardens on buses and first-year civil engineering student David Shead’s solution to Sydney’s traffic gridlock.
