It’s been a difficult start to the semester, so make sure you take some time to relax over the break. Not sure what to do? We’ve got some ideas.

While it’s important to keep up with your studies over the mid-semester break, it’s also critical that you give yourself some time to rest and recharge. As you’ll be self-isolating, you will likely have more free time than usual, so we’ve put together some suggestions to help keep you occupied.

Take an (online) tour

For many it will be difficult staying at home over the mid-semester break, when you usually use this opportunity to explore. Luckily there are several ways you can still see the world, without leaving the comfort of your own room.

Catch up on your binge watching

We’re all stuck inside this break, so there has never been a better time to catch up on all of those TV shows and movies you haven’t had time to watch.

Delve into the world of podcasts

A good podcast can be vital during the break, whether to accompany you while you clean your room, or to keep you occupied when you get out for exercise. Here’s a list of some of the best podcasts from 2020 to help you get started.

Start a project

It’s a been a stressful few weeks and it’s ok to want to sit back and do nothing more than watch TV and relax. But if you do feel the need to do something a little more fulfilling, now is a perfect time to start a project or get creative.

If you have an instrument, get practising! Experiment with your cooking or bake something new. Finally get stuck into that epic novel you’ve been meaning to read for a while (or maybe start that epic novel you’ve always wanted to write). Take a short online class at the Centre for Continuing Education. Complete a puzzle or build a Lego set. The options are endless.

If none of these appeal to you, you could use the break to get some life admin sorted. Fill out those applications you’ve been putting off, complete your LinkedIn profile or start working on your resumé.
