The Inaugural Iain McCalman Lecture

Join the Sydney Environment Institute in celebrating the career of retiring Co-Director, and distinguished historian, Professor Iain McCalman AO, as we launch ‘The Iain McCalman Lecture’.

From Charles Darwin to the Great Barrier Reef; the sciences to the humanities; Iain McCalman established himself as an internationally renowned cultural historian, an award-winning author and a highly accomplished professor of history and the humanities.

The Sydney Environment Institute will acknowledge these contributions with an annual lecture aimed at highlighting early-career researchers who, like Iain McCalman, are working across disciplinary boundaries to impact both scholarship and public discourse.

The inaugural lecture will be given by Dr Frances Flanagan, 2019 University of Sydney Fellow and research affiliate of the Sydney Environment Institute. Flanagan’s research investigates the past and future of work, environmentalism, gender and social change and her talk titled, ‘Climate change and the new work order’, will explore how the workforce can become a site of social and ecological renewal.

Professor David Schlosberg, Co- Director, Sydney Environment Institute, will open the event. The annual Iain McCalman Lecture series was created by Michelle St Anne.

This event was held at the University of Sydney on Wednesday 6 February 2019.
