The Sydney Policy Lab Impact Awards support University of Sydney academic staff to engage in community-led, exploratory, multidisciplinary research that addresses complex policy challenges.
Under the 2026 Impact Awards, a grant of up to $35,000 is available to University of Sydney researchers or research teams to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research and influence in public policy.
Examples of research and influence could include:
- accelerating the development and delivery of projects already underway
- supporting exploration of a new or emerging idea for community-led, multidisciplinary and applied research
- building knowledge, strengthening skills and growing networks that support high quality research across disciplines that has relevance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander research and policy influence
- mapping researchers from different disciplines who are working on issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research and policy in order to enable greater collaboration across the University
- convening people from different disciplines and places to build relationships and explore opportunities for collaborations and grant applications.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be researchers who are employed at the University of Sydney or hold formal affiliation with the University under the Honorary Titles Policy and retain that status for the duration of the proposed project.
Research communities at The University of Sydney may also apply – e.g. research networks, teams or collectives. In these cases, one individual must be nominated to administer the award, including financial oversight and reporting.
Applicants are not required to be Lab members at the time of application. Successful applicants receive Lab membership.
Preference will be given to individuals and teams led by, or working closely with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and communities.
How to apply
University of Sydney researchers are warmly invited to review the award criteria and apply online by Friday 17 October 2025.
