This third unit of study for both single and double mathematics method pre-service teachers focusses on senior secondary mathematics. For all mathematics courses offered in the senior school, pre-service teachers will evaluate and design differentiated learning experiences and assessment tasks using a range of resources. We examine the retention of students beyond the compulsory years of schooling, identifying issues associated with students’ engagement and motivation to continue the study of advanced mathematics. We will discuss career choice limitations, exploring ways in which the continued learning of mathematics, and mathematics and science careers, can be promoted in schools.
