This unit of study focuses on teaching and learning additional languages in primary schools, with a focus on developing pedagogical knowledge and creativity, as well as specialisation in specific languages. The unit will examine the rationale for starting formal language learning early in a school setting, as well as related topics such as implementing a language program, linking to first language literacy, and using appropriate teaching techniques for lesson planning, unit programming, and material design and evaluation. Students will investigate various models of implementation in NSW primary schools and participate in micro-teaching sessions with their peers.
