This unit of study examines the business model concept as a way for entrepreneurs to create, deliver, and capture value in economic, social, and other contexts. We will explore different types of business models applicable to these contexts. Practically, we will apply the ‘business model canvas’ and ‘value proposition canvas’ tools to uncover user needs and develop products and services that can fulfil these needs. We will combine these tools with design thinking methodology in the form of the ‘double diamond model’ to strengthen our value propositions. In doing so, we will gain an understanding of the role and nature of business models, and understand some practical ways we can apply the business model concept to develop our new venture ideas.
