This unit continues the coverage of topics in Social Psychology following PSYC1001 and PSYC2017. The unit's lectures are divided into topical areas, where the emphasis is on critically evaluating theories and the relevant empirical evidence. Topics areas include, among others: the replication crisis and metascience, antisocial behaviours, discrimination, the self, emotions, evolutionary psychology, and existential social psychology. Tutorials are not directly connected with the lectures (no more than incidental overlaps in content of the areas), instead they provide first-hand experience of conducting social psychological research by involving students in a various student-led, group research projects from inception to completion. In addition to the applied focus on doing the actual research, the tutorials provide an opportunity to discuss each step of the research process in depth (e.g. ethical issues that underlie social psychological research, proper practice when collecting and handling data, how to communicate research findings in written and verbal forms).
