In this unit of study, students will be introduced to lyric diction in Italian and Latin, focusing on International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) literacy and foundational speech anatomy. Through theoretical instruction and applied practice, students will develop skills at postgraduate level in phonation, articulation, and pronunciation as they relate to the classical singing voice and the relevant applications for collaborative pianists, répétiteurs, conductors, and composers.
