Our mission

We provide expert veterinary care and rehabilitation to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, aiming to release them back into their natural habitats.

Our goals are to alleviate suffering, promote improved standards of care, enhance our understanding of wildlife health threats, and collaborate closely with our community to address these issues.

  • We believe wild animals in need should have ready access to high quality veterinary care supported by well resourced rehabilitators
  • Every patient, regardless of species, is treated as an individual, with compassion, dignity and respect
  • We adhere to the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council Code of Ethics and the NSW Codes of Practice for Injured, Sick and Orphaned Protected Fauna

What type of veterinary care does WHCH offer?

We offer veterinary and rehabilitation care to all native wildlife including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish.

We do not provide care for pets. We treat wildlife only.

We ensure that each patient receives a thorough assessment and the best treatment and support to optimise their short and long-term welfare.

We work closely with wildlife carers to maximise the chance of our patients being returned to the wild where they can thrive and where it is in the best interests of the animal. Treatment may include:

  • Diagnostic work up including onsite pathology and imaging (ultrasound, digital radiography and access to CT /MRI)
  • Advanced medical care supported by anaesthesia
  • Advanced surgical care supported by anaesthesia
  • Post-operative recovery care
  • Inpatient treatment care
  • Preparation for discharge or rehabilitation
  • Discharge and follow-up care

How is WHCH part of Sydney School of Veterinary Science?

As part of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, WHCH is committed to training the next generation of veterinarians, advancing scientific research, providing vital veterinary care, and educating the public about the importance of wildlife conservation.

Veterinary students gain hands-on experience through clinical exposure, practical training, and mentorship opportunities.

They observe and participate in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various animal health issues under the supervision of experienced veterinarians.
