Strategic vision

Engineering solutions for a digital future
We aim to build a world-class capability that delivers research, engagement and education across the span of digital sciences and technologies.

We’re in the midst of the digital century, which is why our strategic vision encompasses seizing a nationally and internationally leading position in this digital revolution.

A key component underpinning this strategy is the inception of a world-scale Digital Sciences Initiative that combines research, engagement and education excellence across the span of digital sciences and technology together.

The Digital Sciences Initiative Launch

Our Digital Sciences Initiative encompasses all disciplines across the Faculty of Engineering, and serves as the hub for all digital sciences across the wider University of Sydney.

Our Digital Sciences Initiative brings together the best researchers across the span of digital sciences and technologies.

It focuses on mission-oriented research, with a particular focus on leadership in digital sciences – the fundamental theories and practice of computation and algorithms, machine learning and robotics, architecture and communications.

It draws upon our existing research expertise in:

Our Digital Science Initiative will forge strong partnerships within Australia and internationally to drive investment and deliver job growth, bringing benefits to industry and society.

This will include opportunities in digital cities, digital health, digital industries and digital societies, all with the potential for building a range of new businesses and industries centred in Sydney and New South Wales, creating hundreds of thousands of high-value jobs and contributing to a growing digital prosperity.

Our Digital Science Initiative will develop and deliver high-end skills and training to enable the future digital economy and digital transformation of New South Wales and Australia.

This will compliment our existing digitally-focused programs and our transformed undergraduate engineering curriculum which will enable our graduates to standout as future leaders in a rapidly evolving digital world.

We invite you to join us as we transform our vision into reality.

“Our Digital Sciences Initiative aims to to unify the entire university to solve some of the world's biggest problems."
Professor Willy Zwaenepoel, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering
