Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Mechanical)

Mechanical Engineering Stream

Completion of a stream is a requirement of the Bachelor of Engineering Honours.
Students complete 192 credit points comprising:
(a) 36 credit points from the Engineering Core Table, including all required units
(b) 108 credit points of Stream Core units
(c) A minimum of 42 credit points of Mechanical Stream Specialist units
(d) A maximum of 6 credit points from the Engineering General Elective table
(e) The requirements of the Professional Engagement Program.

Stream Core units

Students complete all 108 credit points of the following units of study.
The exceptions are:
(i) Students undertaking the Space Major:
– are exempt from AMME2000 Engineering Analysis and MECH3460 Mechanical Design 2
– complete 18 credit points of units of study from the Space major table specified below.
(ii) Students in the combined Bachelor of Engineering Honours/Bachelor of Arts are exempt from MECH1560 Introduction to Mechanical Engineering. They should take AMME2200 Advanced Aerodynamics in place of AMME2261 Fluid Mechanics 1 and AMME2262 Thermal Engineering 1.

6    A The student will need a sound background in advanced level fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. In particular, students should be able to analyse fluid flow in turbomachinery; perform first and second law thermodynamic analysis of energy conversion systems, including chemically reacting systems; and perform advanced level calculations of conductive and convective and radiative heat transfer, including radiative spectral analysis.
