Learn epi from the epi guru and enjoy Taronga Zoo

Facilitated by Professor Ian Dohoo and co-hosted by Sydney School of Veterinary Science and the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning, the workshop will focus on measurement scales and mediation analysis.

Program

Topic one - Measurement scales 
  • Introduction to scales
  • Classical test theory methods
  • Introduction to item response theory (IRT) models
  • IRT models for binary data
  • IRT models for polychotomous data
  • Evaluation of assumptions and scale development
Topic two - DAGs and mediation analysis 
  • Principles of casual inference (including confounding and interaction)
  • Building and using directed acyclic graphs
  • Traditional approaches to mediation analysis
  • Counterfactual approaches to mediation analyses

The facilitator: Professor Ian Dohoo

  • Internationally renowned veterinary epidemiologist
  • Professor Emeritus at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada
  • Leading author of  ‘Veterinary Epidemiologic Research’
  • Numerous students around the world have participated in his courses
  • He has a particular interest in the advancement of epidemiologic methods, including analyses of hierarchical data, survival analyses, meta-analyses and bias assessment
  • Appointed to the Order of Canada for his contributions to veterinary and human epidemiology in developed and developing countries
