We're working tirelessly to cure blindness and restore sight. The support and generosity of our patients and community allows us to continue our life-changing research into eye diseases and conditions.

Our community of SightFighters are on this journey with us. They motivate and inspire us, remind us of what’s at stake, and are the driving force behind our research efforts.

There are many ways to join us in the fight for sight. Every voice matters. If you care about eye research, and if you want to help us do more and do it faster, become a SightFighter. We need people just like you.

How to donate

Your support will allow us to continue conducting research across all aspects of eye disorders and blindness..

We have a large number of different research groups, covering all aspects of eye disease and vision loss. We are making excellent progress in the battle against blindness, and every year our findings help real people and take us all one step closer to a world where accessible eye care not only prevents vision loss, but restores sight already gone.

The University of Sydney processes all donations, bequests and gifts. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. See our donation options below:

By making a one-off donation, you'll help our researchers to fight blindness. If you are interested in making a regular contribution, or a memorial/tribute gift (in lieu of flowers) to honour a loved one please call or email our Community Giving team to discuss.

You can donate by:

  • completing an online donation form
  • calling 61 2 9552 2539 with your credit card details

How to fundraise

Raise money and awareness for eye research in your own community and in your own way, or join us in our fundraising activities.

We regularly participate in the City2Surf. It's a great way to have fun, get fit and raise much-needed funds to support the life-changing research which takes place at Save Sight Institute.

Show the doctors and researchers how important their work is by participating alongside us or sponsoring our efforts.

Many organisations and employers have programs that help their staff to support the organisations that mean the most to them.

If you are interested in supporting the Save Sight Institute through any work-related initiative, please contact us and we would be pleased to help you help us!

How to advocate

In Australia, around 125 babies are born blind and 1600 with significant vision impairment each year. Many more develop eye diseases as they age, and at some point almost all of us are affected.

The work we do in finding new ways to preserve and restore vision has long term implications, not just for the individuals and families affected, but for communities and the economy as a whole.

One of the most important things that our patients and friends can do is to help us to raise awareness about the critical need for eye research.

  • write to the Minister for Health and Medical Research to share your story and to express your strong support of eye research
  • email or write to your local member of parliament to share your story and to express your strong support of eye research;
  • email or write to your local newspaper to highlight the impact of eye disease and to encourage other people in the community to join the fight for sight.

Thank you for your support.
