The Scholarship includes the below benefits for up to 3 years.

  • $8,500 per annum as a cash payment which will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester, and 
  • $24,000 per annum for accommodation at a college or student residence of or associated with the University of Sydney.

Background

This scholarship was established in 2023 to provide assistance to students studying an undergraduate degree within the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery and who can demonstrate financial need or financial or social disadvantage.

 

1. Background

a. This Scholarship was established in 2023 to provide assistance to students studying a undergraduate degree within the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery and who can demonstrate financial need or financial or social disadvantage.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subjected to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree within the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery.

b. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need or disadvantage.

c. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they are from a low socio-economic area.*

*The low socioeconomic status (low SES) is based on assigning students' address, as they have entered it into UAC to an Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2016 SA1, with the SES value derived from the ABSs' SocioEconomic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) Index of Education and Occupation (IEO) for SA1 areas. This address is geocoded to the appropriate SA1. SA1s in the bottom 25% of the population are classified as low SES.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. a personal statement demonstrating how the scholarship will benefit their studies, 

II. evidence of financial need or disadvantage,

III. evidence the applicant is from a low socio-economic area, and

IV. an interview.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean, University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery, or their nominated delegates. 

4. Value

a. The Scholarship includes the below benefits for up to 3 years.

i. $8,500 per annum as a cash payment which will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester, and 

ii. $24,000 per annum for accommodation at a college or student residence of or associated with the University of Sydney. 

b. Deferral and/or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted without prior approval from either of the following from the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery.

I. Executive Assistant and Project Officer, or

II. School Manager.

c. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing Requirements

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester. 

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment. 

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. enrols in less than 24 credit points in a semester, 

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, 

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, or

V. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose(s) as this Scholarship, or

VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.  

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
