Funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, this Scholarship was established in 2025 with the aim of assisting students who are experiencing financial hardship within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.
1. Background
a. This Scholarship was established in 2025 with the aim of assisting students who are experiencing financial hardship within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.
b. This Scholarship has been funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney.
2. Eligibility
a. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a continuing DFEE (Domestic Full Fee Paying) or IFEE (International Full Fee Paying) full-time student in any coursework degree within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.
b. Applicants must be experiencing financial hardship.
c. Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit points in the current semester of their degree.
d. Applicants must be making good academic progress in their current course. Students whose progression status is listed as Academic Caution or Show Good Cause are not eligible to apply.
e. Applicants who are required to repeat a unit of study will not be eligible.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
I. academic progress (where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the allocated funding, applicants will be ranked based on academic performance by the program directors of those courses), and
II. Domestic students who demonstrate financial hardship, and receive a Centrelink (or other Commonwealth) means-tested income support payment such as:
i. ABSTUDY
ii. Austudy
iii. Youth Allowance
iv. Disability Support Pension
v. Parenting Payment (Single)
vi. Carer Payment.
III. International students who demonstrate financial hardship, and hold one of the following Australian refugee and humanitarian visas:
i. Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202)
ii. Humanitarian Stay visa (subclass 449)
iii. Protection visa (subclass 866)
iv. Refugee visas (subclass 200, 201, 203 and 204)
v. Resolution of Status visa (subclass 851)
vi. Safe Haven Enterprise visa (subclass 790)
vii. Temporary Humanitarian Concern visa (subclass 786)
viii. Temporary Protection visa (subclass 785)
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Associate Dean Education of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, or their nominated delegate(s).
4. Value
a. The Scholarship will cover the tuition fees and Student Services and Amenities Fees for one full time semester of the relevant degree.
b. Deferral and suspension of the scholarship is not permitted.
c. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. None
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol, does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
II. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
III. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or
IV. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
