1. What can I study at a postgraduate level?

Postgraduate study options span research and coursework, with hundreds of courses across nine disciplines on offer at Sydney. So where do you start? With so much information out there, receiving personalised advice is a good place to start. Join us an upcoming postgraduate information evening or event and chat to our University representatives, academics and course advisers about your options.

2. Should I do postgraduate study?

The answer to that primarily depends on your goals. Do you want to gain a professional edge, boost your career or switch it completely? Multiple options support each of those goals, and perhaps more than you realise – which may make it difficult to decide if you should take that next step and how.

Postgraduate study doesn't necessarily mean committing to full-time study for a year or two with a master's degree. Consider a graduate certificate or graduate diploma, and discuss these with the academics and course advisers that are on hand to answer your questions at the information evening.

3. How can I finance my postgraduate study?

We've put together a checklist of questions for ways to pay for your postgraduate course, which covers these three key questions:

  1. Are there Commonwealth Support Places (CSP) available?
  2. How do I access HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loans?
  3. Am I eligible?

Chat to our domestic fees and HECS-HELP team online to learn more.

Another way to reduce the length of your degree, and therefore the cost, is through credit for previous study, also known as recognition of prior learning (RPL). This is determined case by case, and we recommend getting personalised advice at the info evening.

4. How do I apply?

Applications and eligibility requirements vary between course type, disciplines and degree, but generally speaking, there are a few things you need to apply, including required documents.

Learn more about how to apply or get help with your application by speaking to our admissions teams at the info evening.

Between the academics, course advisers and admissions staff, you will get all the help and information you need to confidently submit your application.

5. What support is available for postgraduate students?

When juggling the demands of work, life and study, there may be times when you need to access support services. Student services will be available to share what support is available for postgraduate students at Sydney.

It's also worth having a conversation with the Careers Centre, as they can enhance your ability to reach your career goals with their career planning and development events, including workshops for postgraduate students.
