Honours Fellowship Program

The aim of the SEI Honours Research Fellowship is to provide a supportive environment for young researchers while exposing candidates to multidisciplinary approaches to addressing critical environmental issues. The Fellowship program gives candidates unique access to the SEI’s global network of leading environmental scholars, as well as:

  • mentoring from a senior academic outside but complementary to the candidate’s discipline to promote multi-disciplinary thinking.
  • a bursary of $2,000 towards research costs.
  • the opportunity to collaborate on multidisciplinary projects with researchers across the University.
  • the opportunity to contribute toward multi-authored articles.
  • a hot desk in the SEI office in the Quadrangle (for the duration of the Fellowship).

Iain McCalman Honours Research Award

The Sydney Environment Institute (SEI) has partnered with the Chau Chak Wing Museum (CCWM) and its Macleay Collections, and SEI founding member Professor Emeritus Iain McCalman to provide the Iain McCalman Honours Research Award.

This award provides a chance for one student to explore and use the Macleay Collections, as well as:

  • mentoring from a senior academic outside but complementary to the candidate’s discipline to promote multi-disciplinary thinking.
  • a bursary of $2,000 towards research costs.
  • the opportunity to collaborate on multidisciplinary projects with researchers across the University.
  • the opportunity to contribute toward multi-authored articles.
  • a hot desk in the SEI office in the Quadrangle (for the duration of the Fellowship).

SEI Honours Scholarship in Indigenous Environmental Studies

This scholarship is aimed at providing assistance to Indigenous students undertaking an Honours program aligned with the Sydney Environment Institute’s research areas

A full-time enrolled recipient will receive the scholarship valued at up to $8,000 per annum for up to one year. This will include:

  • $5,000 cash payment. 
  • up to $3,000 for relocation and accommodation support.

A part-time enrolled recipient will receive the scholarship valued at up to $4,000 per annum for up to two years. This will include:

  •  $2,500 per annum cash payment.
  • up to $1,500 for relocation and accommodation support.

PhD Scholarships

This scholarship provided financial assistance to PhD students who were undertaking research in one of the core areas of Sydney Environment Institute's collaborative work.

This scholarship provided a stipend equivalent to the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate for up to 3.5 years, subject to academic performance.
