Book launch

Fieldwork in Timor-Leste: Understanding social change through practice

Join Dr Maj Nygaard-Christensen and SSEAC’s Dr Thushara Dibley for the Sydney launch of the first book to focus on fieldwork experience and approaches in Timor-Leste.

When: 5.30pm – 6.30pm, Thursday 18 May 2017

Where: New Law Annexe Seminar Room 346

This ground-breaking exploration of research methodologies in Timor-Leste brings together 10 scholars who present a range of fieldwork practices and challenges from colonial times to the present day. The researchers who have contributed to founding the field of Timor studies introduce readers to their experiences of conducting anthropological, historical and archival fieldwork in this new nation.

This is a must-have volume for scholars, other fieldworkers and policy-makers preparing to work in Timor-Leste, invaluable for those needing to understand the country from afar, and a fascinating read for anyone interested in the Timorese world.

Dr Maj Nygaard-Christensen will be presenting on Timor-Leste at the University of Sydney on Friday, 19 May 2017 as part of Politics in action: Updates from Southeast Asia
