Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science)

Course overview

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) students must complete a total of 144 credit points, comprising 120 credit points of core units of study and 24 credit points of elective units of study.

The course will cover all aspects of exercise and sport science, including musculoskeletal anatomy, body systems, muscle mechanics and training, neuroscience, nutrition, exercise testing and prescription, and motor control and learning. This program incorporates significant clinical and professional fieldwork opportunities, providing hands-on experience with real clients in a supervised environment. Through completion of a minimum of 140 hours of approved professional experience students will learn to effectively combine the academic components of the course with the practical abilities required of the profession.

Honours

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) offers an appended honours program. This is a one-year full-time program that students undertake when they have completed all units of study in their pass degree. Honours students undertake two units of study and conduct a research project with one-to-one supervision from an experienced academic. Students with a weighted average mark of 65 or more are eligible to apply for the honours program.

An honours degree is an opportunity for students to contribute to knowledge in their area of interest, gain valuable professional skills, and broaden their career options.

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) Honours, a candidate must complete the requirements for their pass degree and an additional 48 credit points of units of study as listed in the Honours pathway of the Exercise and Sport Science table of units of study.

Accreditation

Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) graduates are eligible to apply for membership of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) and accreditation as exercise scientist.
