Bionics and Bioelectronics

The Bionics and Bioelectronics specialisation is designed to prepare you for the burgeoning bionics and bioelectronics industry.

This specialisation will provide you with a fundamental understanding of the integration of electronics with biology, biomaterials, neuromodulation and long-term reliability knowledge essential to sensory and motor implantable therapies.

Bionics and Bioelectronics

Students complete 30 credit points to achieve this specialisation.
Students must complete 12 credit points from the following:
ELEC2104
Electronic Devices and Circuits
6    A ELEC1103. Ohm's Law and Kirchoff's Laws; action of Current and Voltage sources; network analysis and the superposition theorem; Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits; inductors and capacitors, transient response of RL, RC and RLC circuits; the ability to use power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, meters, etc.

ELEC2302
Signals and Systems
6    A (MATH1001 OR MATH1021) AND MATH1002 AND (MATH1003 OR MATH1023). Basic knowledge of differentiation & integration, differential equations, and linear algebra.
Semester 2
Students must complete 18 credit points from the following:

Biomedical Instrumentation
6    A A knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology and electrical circuits is required: Ohm's law, Thevenin's and Norton's theorems, basic circuit theory involving linear resistors, capacitors and inductors, operational amplifiers.

Introduction to Biomechatronics
6    A Knowledge in mechanical and electronic engineering; adequate maths and applied maths skills; background knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology; Some programming capability: MATLAB, C, C++, software tools used by engineers including CAD and EDA packages.
