Sign up to be an academic, affiliate, professional or student member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre

As a member, you’ll be the first to receive invitations to our events and information tailored to suit your research area and countries of interest.

Please read the information below on membership options and what the options entitle you to.

Membership types

Academic membership

To qualify for academic membership, you must:

  • be employed on a full-time, part-time or casual basis, or hold an honorary position at The University of Sydney

Academic members will:

  • be eligible to apply for the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre grants
  • be publicly listed as a member on our website (provided you have published or received grants relating to one or more of the countries in Southeast Asia, or engaged in significant capacity building or similar activities, in the last ten years)
  • have their affiliation with the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre on their academic page
  • receive the quarterly newsletter and targeted communications
  • be eligible to participate in relevant events

Become an academic member

Student membership

To qualify for student membership, you must:

  • be enrolled in an undergraduate, Honours, Postgraduate Coursework, Research Masters, or PhD program at the University of Sydney
  • be working on one or more of the countries of Southeast Asia

Student members will:

  • be eligible to participate in relevant events
  • be eligible to apply for the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre prizes, scholarships and selected grants
  • receive the quarterly newsletter and targeted student communications

Become a student member

Professional membership

To qualify for professional membership, you must:

  • be employed on a full-time, part-time or casual basis at The University of Sydney in a professional role

Professional members will:

  • be eligible to apply for selected Sydney Southeast Asia Centre grants
  • receive the quarterly newsletter and targeted communications
  • be eligible to participate in relevant events

Become a professional member

Affiliate membership

To qualify for affiliate membership, you must:

  • have published or received grants relating to one or more of the countries in Southeast Asia, or engaged in significant capacity building or similar activities, in the last ten years
  • not be employed on a full-time, part-time or casual basis, or hold an honorary position at The University of Sydney

Affiliate members will:

  • receive the quarterly newsletter and targeted communications
  • be eligible to partner with University of Sydney academics on selected Sydney Southeast Asia Centre grants
  • be encouraged to list their affiliation with SSEAC on their own academic website
  • be eligible to participate in relevant events

Become an affiliate member

Affiliate student membership

To qualify for affiliate student membership, you must:

  • be enrolled in an undergraduate, Honours, Postgraduate Coursework, Research Masters, or PhD program at a university other than The University of Sydney
  • be working on one or more of the countries of Southeast Asia

Affiliate student members will:

  • be eligible to partner with University of Sydney academics on selected Southeast Asia Centre grants
  • be given priority access to relevant events
  • receive the quarterly newsletter and targeted student communications

Become an affiliate student member

Friends of SSEAC

If you don't qualify for any of the above SSEAC memberships, you're welcome to come on board as a friend of SSEAC.

To qualify as a friend of SSEAC, you must:

  • have an interest in the research and work being done in the Southeast Asian region

Friends of SSEAC will:

  • receive the quarterly newsletter
  • be given priority access to relevant events
