Join the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre for a special public lecture with H.E. Dr José Ramos-Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and 1996 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
In this timely address, President Ramos-Horta will reflect on Timor-Leste’s journey from resistance to democratic nationhood, its historic accession to ASEAN, and the country’s evolving role in Southeast Asia and the world.
The program will feature a keynote address followed by an in-conversation session and moderated audience Q&A, offering the public a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the region’s most significant leaders on diplomacy, peacebuilding and Timor-Leste’s future.
The event will also include a dedicated session remembering the Balibo Five and acknowledging the enduring significance of their story in Australia–Timor-Leste relations.
