Overview

This professional certificate provides an overview of the pharmaceutical and medical device development and regulation processes in Australia and globally.

You will develop your skills in innovative prototyping solutions, writing patents, understanding freedom to operate and intellectual property, regulatory and clinical strategies, reimbursement, business and funding strategies. You will develop essential business skills (including development of a business case based on market analysis) and knowledge required to commercialise a product from start-up MedTech to large Pharma. The process of capital fundraising and how to construct a development pathway for manufacturing and marketing of both medical devices and pharmaceutical products will be examined. 

Units of study:

  • Drugs and Devices: R and D to Registration (PCOL5101)
  • Commercialising Pharma and MedTech (PCOL5105) (new in 2020)

Who should study this course?

This course is suited to aspiring biomedical innovators (including higher degree research graduates) interested in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. The course is developed and delivered with industry partners who include regulatory affairs, industry associations and market leaders.

Admission criteria

Admission to the Sydney Professional Certificate in Commercialisation of Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices requires a:

  • medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification ; or
  • bachelor's degree in a health or science-related discipline; or
  • bachelor of business.
