Biomedical Engineering

Overview

A postgraduate stream in Biomedical Engineering will allow you to apply engineering principles in order to understand, modify or control biological systems.

Biomedical engineering combines knowledge of electronic, mechanical, chemical and materials engineering, together with knowledge of the life sciences: medicine, biology and molecular biology. Technologies produced by biomedical engineers support and enhance human life, help individuals to overcome physical disabilities, aid in delivering medical procedures, and measure and deliver data to improve health and safety.

You will learn how to work with doctors and medical scientists, researching and designing ways to improve health care and medical services. You will be involved in the design and development of medical products, devices used to monitor and treat patients, and in improving quality of life for individuals suffering from various medical conditions.

Areas of study include bionics and bioelectronics, biomedical design and modelling, biocomputation, and nanoscale biotechnology.
