Okta FastPass

Okta FastPass is a new way to log in to University systems without needing to enter a password or receive verification codes on your phone.

Once you install and set up Okta FastPass, you can access university systems with just one click, making it faster and easier to log in.

Okta FastPass works by linking your device to your identity. FastPass is available on Mac and Windows laptops or desktops only. It is not supported on mobile devices, iPads, Linux or Chromebooks.

Using Okta FastPass is optional.

  1. Confirm Windows Hello is configured on your device. Find out how to configure Windows Hello.
  2. Download and install the Okta Verify app on your Windows device. Follow the instructions to install the app.
  3. Follow the instructions in our knowledge article to set up Okta FastPass on Windows.
  4. During the enrolment process you will be prompted to enter 'New account' details. Type in: sso.sydney.edu.au

Additional information for Chrome/Edge users:

When using Okta FastPass for the first time, you might be prompted with a request to look for and connect to any device on your local network. Select 'Allow'. You will only need to do this once.

If you select 'Block', you will not be able to use Okta FastPass and will need to login using the old method. Follow our instructions to change this setting.

Support with Okta FastPass

If you’ve followed the setup steps but experience issues, contact the ICT Shared Service Centre. They can assist with troubleshooting or escalating your case if needed.

The ICT Shared Service Centre is available Monday to Friday from 7.00 am to 9.00 pm and Saturday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The Campus Connect, Student Centre and Library teams can also provide support during standard business hours on weekdays.

Okta FastPass is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11. To check the version of Windows running on your device, click the Start menu in the bottom-left corner of your screen, type and select ‘Settings’ and scroll down to see 'Your device info'. The version of Windows should be shown under 'Edition'. If your device runs a version older than Windows 10, you will not be able to use Okta FastPass.

Unfortunately, Windows Hello is essential for Okta FastPass to function on Windows devices. If your device is not capable of using Windows Hello, you will not be able to use Okta FastPass.

Okta FastPass is compatible with MacOS 13 (Ventura) and later. To check the version of MacOS running on your device, click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen, select ‘About This Mac’. Your MacOS will be listed on that window. If your device runs a version below MacOS 13, then you will not be able to use Okta FastPass.

If you are a staff member as well as a student, Okta FastPass will treat you as a staff member. That means you need to have a University-managed device in order to use Okta FastPass. Please refer to staff intranet for more information.

Okta FastPass is not suitable for use on shared devices as it links the device to one person's account. However, if the device has separate user profiles, Okta FastPass can still work since each person signs in through their own profile.
