Abstract

Across Asia, peace, security, and environmental justice are interconnected challenges experienced by the communities. Climate change, fragile security landscapes, and unresolved human rights issues make clear that answers will not come from one discipline alone, but from collaboration across law, politics, development, and environmental governance. Although climate change, social inequalities, and fragile security systems threaten communities and ecosystems, they also create opportunities for cooperation and innovation. By highlighting the interdependence of peace, security and environmental justice to uphold human dignity, this conference calls for a shift in perspective that security must be understood not merely as the absence of conflict, but as the condition in realising ecological, social, and human justiceThrough conceptual reflection and advocacy for action, this conference invites participants to explore pathways of regional cooperation in Asia that uphold human dignity and resilience, which are vital for shaping a sustainable future shared across generations. The conference will emphasise a few key discussions, for example, but not limited to:

  • How can security be reconceptualised as justice, ecological, social, and human, rather than merely in the absence of conflict?
  • The role of regional cooperation in Asia in addressing environmental and security challenges.
  • Pathways for embedding human dignity, the right to development, and rights-based approaches to migration within sustainability and peacebuilding strategies.
  • The importance of inclusive, multidisciplinary dialogues for shaping resilient and just futures.
