Business Information Systems

Overview

The Business Information Systems specialisation allows students to gain an understanding of how businesses operate in the digital world. Students will learn about the crucial role modern digital technologies play in shaping new business models, disrupting industries and organising and transforming business operations.

Students acquire practical skills and techniques to carry out an effective business analysis with a view to improving business operations or rethinking business models through the application of digital technologies.

The specialisation also enables students to gain an understanding of the role of technologies, such as a Business Information System, in facilitating business transformation and organisational change in increasingly competitive market environments.

Units of study in this area cover digital business innovation, business information systems, cyber security and risk management, agile business methods, business process management, digital transformation, data visualisation, digital work practices and enterprise information infrastructures.

Requirements for a Business Information Systems specialisation

To achieve a specialisation in Business Information Systems within the Master of Commerce and Master of Commerce (Extension), students must complete:

  • 6 credit points of foundational units of study; and
  • 24 credit points of Business Information Systems specialisation area selective units of study.

Students completing this specialisation to meet the requirements for the Master of Commerce or as their compulsory specialisation for the Master of Commerce (Extension) would complete a 6 credit point capstone unit from Capstone units of study for their degree in the same subject area as their specialisation.

Students completing this specialisation as their optional second specialisation for the Master of Commerce (Extension) are not required to complete the capstone unit of study for their secondary specialisation.
