These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2024, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time, depending on study load.
The master's degree in these resolutions is a professional master's course, as defined by the Coursework Policy.
(1) The embedded courses in this sequence are:
(a) the Graduate Certificate in Building Performance and Sustainable Design
(b) the Graduate Diploma in Building Performance and Sustainable Design
(c) the Master of Building Performance and Sustainable Design
(2) Providing candidates satisfy the admission requirements for each stage, a candidate may progress to the award of any of the courses in this sequence. Only the longest award completed will be conferred.
(1) Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Building Performance and Sustainable Design requires:
(a) a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
(b) in the absence of a bachelor's degree, evidence of three years’ full time equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
(2) Admission to the Graduate Diploma in Building Performance and Sustainable Design requires:
(a) a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
(b) completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with a weighted average mark of at least 70.
(3) Admission to the Master of Building Performance and Sustainable Design requires:
(a) a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
(b) completion of the requirement of the graduate certificate with a weighted average mark of at least 70; or
(c) completion of a recognised undergraduate program in architecture, engineering, project management or a related field from another institution with a credit average mark (equivalent to 65%) over the final two years of study.
(4) Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admission criteria. In exceptional circumstances the Head of School and Dean may admit applicants without these qualifications but where evidence of experience and achievement is deemed by the Head of School and Dean to be equivalent.
(1) The units of study that may be taken for this award are set out in Table A.
(2) To qualify for the award of the Graduate Certificate in Building Performance and Sustainable Design, a candidate must complete 24 credit points, including:
(a) Minimum of 18 credit points of core units of study of 5000 level
(b) Maximum 6 credit points elective units.
(3) To qualify for the award of the Graduate Diploma in Building Performance and Sustainable Design a candidate must complete 48 credit points, including:
(a) Minimum of 36 credit points of core units of study of 5000 level; and
(b) Maximum of 12 credit points of elective units of study. With the permission of the relevant delegate, a maximum of 6 credit points can be taken as elective units outside those listed in the table, including units of study offered by other faculties.
(4) To qualify for the award of the Master of Building Performance and Sustainable
Design a candidate must complete 96 credit points, including:
(a) 54 credit points of core units of study; and
(b) 30 credit points of elective units of study. With the permission of the relevant delegate, a maximum of 12 credit points can be taken as elective units outside those listed in the table, including units of study offered by other faculties; and
(c) 12 credit points of capstone units of study.
(1) Subject to the specific provisions of this clause 7, prior learning may be recognised consistently with the requirements of the Coursework Policy
(2) The School of Architecture, Design and Planning may award credit or reduced volume of learning to candidates who have completed relevant postgraduate studies for a maximum of 12 credit points recognised towards core units of study and 6 credit points recognised towards electives
(3) Candidates for the Master of Building Performance and Sustainable Design may be granted a reduced volume of learning, up to a maximum of 36 credit points if they have a completed the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments with a minimum credit average from the School of Architecture, Design and Planning
(4) Candidates for the Master of Building Performance and Sustainable Design may be granted a reduced volume of learning, up to a maximum of 24 credit points if they have a completed a relevant bachelor's degree with a minimum credit average (or equivalent)
(5) Reduced volume of learning on the basis of professional work experience is available for a max of 18 credit points.
A candidate for the master's degree or graduate diploma may elect to discontinue study and graduate with a shorter award from this embedded sequence, with the approval of the Head of School and Dean, and provided the requirements of the shorter award have been met.
These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2025.
