Academic calendar

Teaching and learning in this course takes place in accordance with the University’s approved semesters and teaching blocks, and as set out in the 2026 Sydney Nursing School Academic Calendar, available on the Key dates page and approved by the Academic Standards and Policy Committee.

The Bachelor of Science and Master of Nursing combined degree consists of a total of 192 credit points, 96 credit points in the Bachelor of Science degree and 96 credit points in the Master of Nursing. 

In the first year, study is exclusively in the bachelor's degree. Years 2 and 3 are a combination of undergraduate and postgraduate studies and Year 4 is entirely postgraduate. All students must complete their bachelor's degree before continuing to the fourth and final year of their combined degree.

Students must complete a total of 192 credit points, including:

  • 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Science, comprising:
  • Bachelor of Science degree core: 
    • 12 credit points of units of study as set out in Science Table A Degree Core and
    • 12 credit points of 1000-level units of study as set out in Science Table A (excluding units present in Science Table A Degree Core); units used to meet the Degree Core requirement can also be used to meet the requirements for major(s) or minor(s)
  • a major (48 credit points) from Bachelor of Science Table A 
  • 48 credit points of units of study as specified for years 2 and 3 from the Units of Study Table for the Bachelor of Science and Master of Nursing will meet the requirements for a compulsory minor or second major, as specified in the resolutions for the Bachelor of Science
  • a minimum of 6 credit points from the Open Learning Environment as specified in Table O
  • As appropriate, elective units from Science Table ATable S (Shared Pool) or Table O
  • 96 credit points of core Master of Nursing units specified in the Bachelor of Science and Master of Nursing table; and
  • Clinical experience as prescribed.

Students enrolled in the Dalyell stream are to refer to the Bachelor of Science and Master of Nursing rules for additional course requirements.

Students enrolled in the Health Steam of the Bachelor of Science and Master of Nursing are to refer to the Science Health Stream for additional requirements.

Clinical placements

Pre-registration nursing courses involve significant participation in off-campus clinical placements and students are required to complete more than 800 clinical hours during their degree.

Students must be available to complete full-time weeks of shift work throughout university holiday periods in order to complete their clinical placements.
