Professor Paul Young

I am the Inaugural Chair of Commercialisation in the new Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney and was previously the Deputy Executive Director of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. I have more than 20 years experience in industry, academia, entrepreneurship, business creation and strategic development. I have a passion for mentorship and external partnership and lead a team who are passionate about creating an entrepreneurship cultural within the University.

I am an internationally recognised expert in the field of respiratory science and technology and have published >200 peer reviewed journal articles since 2002 (>5000 citations), 6 patents, 20 book chapters and in excess of 150 conference proceedings. I have an H-index of 38 and 5-year i10 index of 132. I received > $17M for projects and infrastructure for my research since 2005 and have a proven track record in securing Government and non-government funds from multiple sources. Key Cat 1 Grants including 9 ARC Linkage Grants, 4 Discovery Projects, 1 NHMRC Project and 2 NHMRC Development Grants. I have an in-depth knowledge of the Australian Academic system and funding and have served on the ARC College of Experts. I held an ARC Future Fellowship from 2012-2016 and my research team has ~20 personne. Learn more about my research at RespiTech.

I conceptialised and developed he Masters of Medicine (Pharmaceutical and Medical Device) program. This Degree, of which I am program Director, is focused on professional education for the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Sectors. The course is taught by industry and thought leaders in the field and is ‘governed’ by an Advisory Committee made up of industry professionals. Learn more about the degree at MMed (PharmDev).
