Travelling around Sydney

Transport from the airport

If you're coming to the University or your acommodation from Sydney Airport, read all about the different options for getting to your final destination.

Train or bus

Train stations are on the lower levels of the domestic and international airport terminals, and are easy to find by following the signs. Buses also depart from both airports. Be aware that some of Sydney’s train stations don’t have lifts (elevators) for your luggage, so this could be a challenge when you get to your destination.

If you're taking public transport straight to Camperdown/Darlington campus from the airport, you'll need to change services along the way as there's no direct bus or train.

Plan your trip on the Transport NSW website.

If you do decide on public transport, you have some options to pay your fare:

  • Purchase an adult Opal card. You can get a single trip or a re-chargeable card from the airport's train stations and some retailers.
  • Use contactless payment such as a credit card or digital wallet.

Find out more about paying your fare on the Transport NSW's Tickets and Opal page.

Taxi

Catching a taxi is more expensive than public transport, but they will be able to take you directly to your door and save you from carrying your luggage too far. Taxi ranks are situated just outside both domestic and international terminals and are easy to find by following the signs.

Sydney has many taxi companies, which you can find through an internet search. Taxis are regulated by the NSW Government, and all taxis must display the fare calculation device and the driver's identity document.

Ride share

Ride sharing apps (such as Uber, Didi) are popular in Sydney and can be used at the domestic and international airport. Once you exit the airport terminal, follow signs to the ride share pick-up area, as this is where your driver will meet you.

Travelling to campus and around town

Parking around campus is limited and most spaces are metered, so driving isn't always the best option. Find all the ways:

If rechargeable transport is more your style, make sure you understand the different rules, noting that some vary depending on the suburb you're in. Stay safe and avoid getting a fine by reading up on:

If you plan on using a bike path, you can use the NSW Government's Cycleway Finder map to plan your ride.

The NSW Government's pedestrian page has advice for using footpaths and crossing roads. This covers walking, skateboards, mobility scooters and more.
