Course overview

By taking the Bachelor of Design OR the Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Advanced Studies, with a stream in Interaction Design, you will develop a deep and rich understanding of how people interact and experience the technology-mediated world around usYou will also learn how to design human-centred interactions and experiences, developing the practical skills needed to realise these designs into products and services.

This unique degree introduces you to two fundamental aspects of interaction design: the technical and the social. Combining technical design skills such as programming and interface design with user-centred, ethical and social design practices, you will be able to choose from a range of selective units to build a degree that suits your design interests.

The degree includes four design studios that focus on user experience design, interaction design, information visualisation, and interactive product design. In each studio, you will apply the skills you’ve learned to real-world problems under the mentorship of educators, develop your portfolio, and prepare for a career in this exciting, high-growth and highly paid industry.

You can also take electives from other faculties, enrol in a second major under the Bachelor of Advanced Studies program, or complete an honours year, allowing you to further enhance your skills and work on your project ideas.

Planning your degree

The program has been designed so that the core units should be taken in a certain order and the elective units fitted with them. The enrolment planner shows progression through the core units of study in both the honours and advanced coursework pathways.

Honours

Honours is an opportunity for students to engage with the rigour and depth of the research world. It can serve as an entry point into higher degree research, and is increasingly being recognised by industry as a valuable indicator of critical thinking skills.

Honours may only be undertaken on a full-time basis.
