Interdisciplinary project units

Overview

There are two types of interdisciplinary project units available in majors offered in the shared pool (Table S):

  1. Industry and Community Project Units (ICPUs); and
  2. Faculty-based interdisciplinary project units

1. Industry and Community Project Units (ICPUs) provide students with the opportunity to work on authentic issues set out by leading Australian and International industry, community and government organisations.

In collaboration with a major industry partner and an academic lead, students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds work in a group to solve a real world problem. Detailed information about specific projects offered and the enrolment and registration process can be found on the Industry and community projects page on the Current Students website.

2. Faculty-based interdisciplinary project units provide students with learning experiences that build skills, knowledge and understanding of the application of their disciplinary backgrounds to interdisciplinary contexts through problem-based projects.

Interdisciplinary project units are open to all third-year students who meet the eligibility requirements. Requirements for each major are found in the unit of study table in the relevant Faculty Handbook.

Requirements for majors are set out in 21(4) of the Learning and Teaching Policy. Guidelines for majors are set out in Schedule 4 of the Learning and Teaching Procedures.
