As a leader in health education and research in Australia and globally, we educate the future healthcare workforce, solve the world’s biggest healthcare challenges and reimagine the way healthcare is delivered. Our goal is to “make and shape the future of healthcare”.
Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) at the University of Sydney. We have been training health professionals since 1856 when we established the first medical school in Australia. We are now proud to work as a truly multidisciplinary medicine and health faculty reflecting a contemporary model of education, health care and research.
We train the future health workforce, lead innovation in education and research, and we’re focussed on delivering health outcomes with impact for the benefit of our community. We work to achieve a transformative impact on health care policy and practice, deliver excellence in education to our students, and provide a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment for our colleagues and partners.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health has seven academic schools – medical science, medicine, allied health, nursing and midwifery, dentistry, pharmacy and public health – and operates throughout New South Wales in our three large metropolitan precincts and one rural precinct. We work in partnership with our teaching hospitals, research institutes and community and primary health care providers.
Our research tackles the big health challenges including mental health and substance abuse, cancer control, infectious disease, indigenous health, child and adolescent health, vision science, musculoskeletal disorders and cardiovascular disease. Our researchers are committed to building capacity in our higher degree students and young and mid-career researchers.
As a research-intensive faculty in a world class university, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference – both locally and for communities beyond our shores. Whether you join us a student or as a staff member, you will be joining a team of passionate individuals who want to improve the health of our communities and to solve the world’s biggest healthcare problems.
