The University of Sydney continues its partnership with Yonsei University in Korea, by signing a Strategic Partner Agreement.
We are firmly in the Asian century with Australia’s future closely interlinked with Asia.
The strategic partnership will see each institution contribute matched funding of up to A$30,000 (approximately KRW 25,000,000) annually to support three joint projects or activities each year.
In a ceremony on Friday in Seoul, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney Dr Michael Spence and President of Yonsei University Dr Yong-Hak Kim signed the two-year agreement to foster greater collaboration in research, teaching and learning, and knowledge exchange.
"We are firmly in the Asian century with Australia’s future closely interlinked with Asia. This is true of our economic future as well as our research endeavours. We have been building strong links with Yonsei University for a number of years and we hope this agreement will further cement our relationship with one of Korea’s finest universities," Dr Michael Spence said.
"We will further strengthen our strategic partnership with the University of Sydney to expand research collaboration and student exchange,” Dr Kim Yong-Hak said.
The MOU signing ceremony was part of a University of Sydney delegation visit to Korea that also included a workshop organised by the University of Sydney Nano Institute and Yonsei University to establish collaborative research in nanoscience and technology with a focus on sensors, biosensors, material characterisation and medicine.
The University of Sydney has been a strategic partner with Yonsei University since 2015, funding 12 joint projects to the value of $118,000 with matched funding from Yonsei University. The funding has resulted in a number of conference papers, journal articles and book chapters.
Yonsei University is one of 18 universities across North America, Europe and Asia that the University of Sydney has as strategic partners to develop high-impact collaboration through leadership in research, teaching and international experiences.
