First preferences for the University of Sydney in applications through UAC have increased by 10 percent compared to last year, alongside a 9 percent jump in total preferences.
“We’re delighted by these early results, and that the University of Sydney remains the most popular choice in NSW and ACT for the sixth year in a row,” Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Mark Scott, said.
“We’re particularly proud of the work we’ve done to make our world-leading education more accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.
“Our decision to remove maths pre-requisites for many of our courses from 2025 to increase accessibility has succeeded, most notably with a 39 percent increase in preferences for our Business degrees and 12 percent increase in Science – and we are ready to deliver on our commitment to provide targeted support for commencing students as they embark on and complete their degrees with us.
“We’re also pleased by the ongoing success of our MySydney Scholarship and Entry Scheme in attracting more students from low socio-economic areas, with hundreds more MySydney scholars expected to join us on campus this year."
New degree combinations are also proving popular, with students showing strong interest in our Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science; and Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts courses.
Across the University, demand remains strongest for degrees in Science, Arts and Social Science, and Medicine and Health.
“As students nervously await their results and offers, remember there are many pathways into university and the career of your dreams," Professor Scott said.
