BIDH3146: Cyberpsychology in Digital Health

2026 unit information

This unit introduces cyberpsychology through a workshop series focused on how technology impacts human behaviour. Each workshop focuses on key areas of cyberpsychology research and application, such as in social media, gaming, AI, VR/AR and Mixed Reality technologies. The series culminates in skills development on how to understand technological ethics and laws that impact individual decision making from information attained online, to how best to use it in personal digital health decision making across individual differences. Each student is issues a VR headset to use for portions of the series. Students are also engaged in behavioural research of user experiences and training in technological ethics of how best to use current and emerging technologies for well being and best-practice societal implementation. Due to the use and maintenance of hands-on VR devices for this unit, class size is kept to 40 students or less.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Apply knowledge of cyberpsychology and digital health research and interventions to effectively address consumer health issues
  • LO2. Understand and explain ethical issues relating to the application of cyberpsychology and digital health interventions
  • LO3. Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of consumer e-Health communication and support tools online
  • LO4. Describe and critically evaluate cyberpsychology in an evolving digital health systems and consumer use
