This unit is a continuation of Chinese 1A. Emphasis will be on grammar patterns that facilitate speaking and reading skills. On completion, students should have a good grasp of common grammatical patterns and be able to communicate with Chinese native speakers in daily contexts.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. master the pronunciation of modern standard Chinese, including the tones
  • LO2. use the basic structure of the grammar of modern standard Chinese
  • LO3. communicate in Chinese in a variety of everyday situations
  • LO4. demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and customs
  • LO5. demonstrate an insight into, and an interest in, Chinese studies.
