Topics covered include the two world wars and the Holocaust, the Russian Revolution, fascism, the complex history of democracy in Europe, empire and decolonization, migration, and the ways international organizations from the League of Nations to the EU have recast Europe. The unit also pays close attention to social and cultural change and examines connections between different aspects of human experience. The unit ranges across Europe, with special attention to France, Germany, Britain, and Russia.
