OLES2155: Experience Israel

2023 unit information

The in-country study unit introduces students to the Hebrew language and culture through an intensive program at a partner university in Israel. Students will have practical language lessons and receive an introduction to contemporary Israeli culture and society. They will participate in cultural activities and have the opportunity to interact with local communities including Arab and other minority groups. The units will develop skills in cross-cultural communication through direct contact.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate the ability to respond to practical challenges related to the in-country experience
  • LO2. Demonstrate cross-cultural awareness
  • LO3. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters
  • LO4. Describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need
  • LO5. Increase your understanding of the diverse cultures and political complexities of Israel through the analysis of cultural materials
  • LO6. Develop skills in cross-cultural communication through direct contact. You will have the opportunity to reflect on and understand cultural differences in authentic contexts.
