ECON4910: Topics in Macroeconomic Analysis

This unit of study is designed to provide an understanding of how theory meets practice in contemporary macroeconomic policy. Topics may cover theoretical, empirical and policy-relevant developments in the field of advanced macroeconomics. Examples of topics include: international macroeconomics; international trade; economic growth; monetary policy; financial crisis; and economics of taxation.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a sound understanding of central bank inflation targeting frameworks
  • LO2. demonstrate an understanding of how central bank strategies have been affected by the global financial crisis
  • LO3. analyse current policy debates against the historical background of earlier crisis episodes
  • LO4. demonstrate the capacity to engage in well-informed debate on current issues in monetary and financial policy
  • LO5. interpret official policy statements in their broader context and communicate their key messages clearly and concisely.
