If you're an eligible student, you can apply for concession fares for public transport and choose between a physical card or contactless payments.
Contactless payment means you can tap on and tap off public transport using your phone, watch or credit or debit card – giving you the same fares and benefits as a Concession Opal card.
If you're a new student, you can choose whether to apply for an Concession Opal card or contactless concessions.
If you're a current student with a Concession Opal card and would like to switch to contactless concessions go to Step 3.

Transport for NSW determines the eligibility for travel concessions.

In some circumstances, Australian Government scholarships entitle you to a transport concession.
All other international students and New Zealand citizens are generally not eligible and will need to purchase an Adult Opal card to travel in the NSW Opal network.

During enrolment you will be asked to give consent for us to share your details with Transport for NSW. You will need to do this each time you re-enrol in your course.
You can also provide your consent at any time by logging in to Sydney Student > My details > Personal details.
Once your eligibility is confirmed, your contactless concessions will be available within 24 hours, or your Concession Opal card will be mailed to you within 5-7 working days.
Tap on and tap off with the same card or device each time you travel.
