In response to COVID-19, the University of Sydney has reviewed the availability of courses to be delivered remotely for students commencing their studies in Semester 1, 2021.

Some units of study and/or placements relating to this major cannot be delivered remotely or online for students commencing their study in Semester 1, 2021. You will be required to attend in-person on campus from Semester 2, 2021.

Note: The University intends to offer as many units of study as possible in a remote as well as face-to-face learning method of delivery in Semester 1, 2021 and subject to ongoing border closures and public health orders impacting attendance on campus, in Semester 2, 2021. However, some units of study and courses require students to study in-person at the relevant University of Sydney campus/es and host locations for placements and will not be available remotely.

About this major

The Exercise Science major is available exclusively in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) and Bachelor of Applied Science / Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Exercise and Sport Science).

Through the Exercise Science major you will develop skills to allow safe and effective implementation of exercise and design and deliver exercise programs using behaviour change strategies through synthesis of evidence, critical reflection and inventiveness. You will develop the ability to interpret findings and problem solve in a wide range of health and performance contexts, using evidence to continue to refine best practise.

About this major

To meet the requirements of a major in Exercise Science, you must complete 48 credit points of units of study, as follows:

(i) 12 credit points of 1000-level core units:

  • Introduction to Exercise Science
  • Principles of Biomechanics

(ii) 18 credit points of 2000-level core units:

  • Movement Analysis
  • Psychology of Exercise and Physical Activity
  • Exercise Programming and Delivery

(iii) 18 credit points of 3000-level core units:

  • Advanced Exercise Programming and Delivery
  • Practicum in Exercise Science 1
  • Practicum in Exercise Science 2

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) and Bachelor of Applied Science / Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Exercise and Sport Science) meet the prerequisite requirements for admission to postgraduate study at the University of Sydney in exercise physiology, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, public health, safety science, and education.
